Russia and Armenia Unite Air Defense Systems in Caucasian Region

Armenia Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu signed an agreement in Moscow on December 23 about the creation of a united regional air defense system in the Caucasian collective security region. The document was signed after the bilateral meeting of the ministers. The 2016 cooperation program between the defense ministries of Russia and Armenia was also signed. “Armenpress” reports the aforementioned referring to RIA Novosti.

Currently Russia works with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan related to the creation of united regional air defense systems. The agreement on the creation of an air defense system was signed with Kazakhstan in 2013, and the air defense system of the RF has already been united with that of Belarus.

As it was reported earlier, the CIS Defense Ministers Council considers integration of the CIS countries’ air defense forces on regional basis the most important aspect of CIS united air defense system development.
