George Henri Ruisen’s Book Presents All Documents Kept in Closed Archives of Vatican and Related to the Armenian Genocide

On November 21, at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Vatican, the Pontifical Institute for Oriental Studies of the Santa Maria Majoriti Church of Rome hosted the presentation of the exclusive seven-volume book by Professor of the Institute and Father George Henri Ruisen. Among the participants of the book presentation were Rector of the Pontifical Institute for Oriental Studies David Nazar, founder of the Sant Egidio Community Andrea Ricardi and President of the Sant Egidio Community Marco Impaliazzo, clergymen of the Armenian Apostolic and Catholic Churches, representatives of the public and private sectors and members of the Italian-Armenian community, reports the RA MFA press service.

The book presents all the documents kept in the closed archives of the Vatican and devoted to the Armenian Genocide, starting from the Hamidian massacres and leading up to the years of the post-genocidal Kemalist era, providing readers with the opportunity to have a complete picture of all the stages of the crime, starting from the plan for genocide and ending with perpetration.

In his speech at the event, RA Ambassador in the Vatican Mikayel Minasian particularly mentioned that the release of the seven-volume book is a major achievement in the field of genocide studies and a history that is also the history of the Turks. “Father Ruisen’s book also helps us learn the facts and helps us read about the past to learn the lessons for the future.”

During the event, Ambassador Minasian awarded Father George Henri Ruisen with the Order of Honor granted by the President of the Republic of Armenia for his notable contribution to the development of Armenology and to the dissemination of spiritual values.
