Grenoble, France – On February 5, 2015, Mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle; envoy of the RA Embassy in France; the Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Lyon, mayors, senators and deputies of Grenoble and several cities near Grenoble; several representatives of cultural and journalistic circles, as well as hundreds of French-Armenians participated in the solemn inauguration of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at Grenoble Municipality in France, as to “Hayern Aysor”, reports Lena Kocharian from France.
Mayor of Grenoble Eric Piol gave an opening speech, followed by speeches by Pascal Babagian representing the associations of the Armenian community of Iser and Envoy Extraordinary Minister Plenipotentiary of the RA Embassy in France Vahagn Atabekyan.
The event began with the screening of the video “1915-2015”, which was made by head of Azad Daily Greguar Adamian and Arayik Sakunts.
The screening was followed by performances by the members of the Armenian cultural center of Grenoble led by Diana Tomoian. The members presented stories and eyewitness accounts of the Armenians’ sufferings provided by survivors of the Armenian Genocide (including the members’ relatives) and foreign eyewitnesses.
The members of the Armenian cultural center also performed the song “For You, Armenia” (Pour toi Arménie), as well as Armenian folk songs.
The event solemnly ended with performances of the Armenian and French national anthems.
The program for the Armenian Genocide Centennial Commemoration events in Grenoble and the nearby cities includes nearly 40 different kinds of events.
