Things are still heating up during the meetings in Yerevan with Hasan Jemal, grandson of perpetrator of the Armenian Genocide Jemal Pasha. On December 12, young Armenian Turkologists had the chance to ask Jemal the questions that they weren’t able to ask during the presentation of the Armenian version of Hasan Jemal’s book 1915: Armenian Genocide (during the presentation, the audience had complained about not having the opportunity to ask their questions-ed.). During the meeting held in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University, students clearly reaffirmed their claims for recognition of the Armenian Genocide and their persistence to have the historic Armenian lands returned.
According to “ArmenPress”, in the beginning, Deputy Dean of the YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies Ruben Melkonyan reminded Jemal that the students hadn’t come to applaud his efforts, but to receive answers to their questions of concern. Although Turkish journalist, writer Hasan Jemal reiterated that he was ready to answer any question, he overtly dodged the questions and made short statements, and this caused the students’ anger. One of the students, who wanted to make Jemal Pasha’s grandson understand that the members of ASALA have nothing to do with bandits or terrorist groups, as Hasan stated yesterday, and that they are avengers, held a sign reading “We Are All Nemesis, We Are All Dzaghigian” (ed.-Stepan Dzaghigian participated in the death sentencing of Jemal Pasha in Tbilisi in 1922 within the frames of the Nemesis Operation).
