The ruling My Step faction of the Armenian parliament says it doesn’t have an issue of amending the national anthem or any other symbol in its agenda.
“I am officially announcing that there is no agenda on amending the anthem or any symbol in the faction,” My Step faction leader Lilit Makunts told reporters today.
She argues that amending symbols is a very delicate matter and changes cannot be considered on every matter. “However, I have already expressed my personal opinion regarding the anthem,” she said.
Earlier Makunts had said that the current national anthem raises certain questions for her, however she emphasized that possible changes should be done as result of joint decisions. Later, Vice Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan had said that the anthem is not popular with the majority of the people and if not today then someday in the future it will be amended.
