Sofia Hosts Presentation of Book “The Spiritual and Educational Life of the Armenians in Bulgaria”

The Armenian National Home of Sofia hosted the presentation of the collection of materials from the conference on “The Spiritual and Educational Life of the Armenians in Bulgaria”, which is dedicated to the 88th birth anniversary and to the 80th death anniversary of the first archbishop of the Armenian Diocese of Bulgaria, Stepannos Hovakimian, reports Gohar Khnganosian from Sofia.

The materials from the conference held in 2014 are related to the establishment of the Armenian Diocese, its leader, the Armenian churches and schools that existed and still exist in different parts of Bulgaria and more. The speeches by Professor Khitko Vacheyev, Marco Zlatyev, Onik Pilibosian, Katalina Saltirova-Pavlova, Vartanush Topakbashian, Yeozheni Sakz, Masis khajolian, Nerses Shirinian, Onik Gyulian, Sona Arshavir, Siruhi Sheytanian, Simon Tyutelian, Gohar Khnkanosian, Elizabeth Boghosian, Armand Basmajian and Mihran Boghosian described the spiritual, educational and cultural issues of the Armenians of Bulgaria.

With archival and historic facts, or by directly participating in the events of our days, the authors show the history and current state of the Armenian community of Bulgaria, making the book become not only interesting, but also unique in its nature.

Among the speakers at the presentation were Father, Archimandrite Isahak Poghosyan, as well as Professor G. Mardirosyan, O. Pilibosyan, V. Topakbashyan and other attendees. The event ended with a poem recited by Priest Gusan Hadavian and a performance of Yekmalyan’s song “Angelic Song” by Mary Basmajian.
