On January 30, the Armenian Genocide Centennial Austria Regional Committee held its final session at the Armenia Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Austria. The session was moderated by RA Ambassador to Austria Arman Kirakossian, reports the RA MFA press service.
The participants of the session summed up the political, scientific, educational, cultural and athletic events that have taken place in Austria between the years of 2013 and 2015 and discussed all the projects that became widely popular in Austria, Armenia and other countries around the world.
The participants of the session particularly emphasized the sincere willingness of Austria’s secular and mundane authorities to acknowledge their responsibility for one of the darkest pages in Armenian history and to express their unanimous position on the 100-year-old facts. In relation to that, they set aside the statement of the Federal Parliament of Austria recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide and adopted on 22 April 2015, similar statements of the local authorities (particularly the municipal authorities of Vienna) and the events sponsored by leader of the Catholic Church of Austria, Cardinal Schönborn.
The participants recognized the Armenian cultural festival in Austria, the concerts of Karen Asatrian and his Armenian Spirit Ensemble in large Austrian cities and the implementation of Vigen Kzartmyan’s “Roots of Renaissance” project by the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Armenia as the most popular cultural events.
Thanks to the fact that Austrian mass media outlets always provided coverage of the given events and several other events (TV and radio programs and articles devoted to the Armenian people, history and culture), Austrian audiences and the public responded to all the events.
Summing up the fruitful activities of the past years, Ambassador Kirakossian expressed gratitude to all the members of the Committee and to the organizations and members of the Austrian-Armenian community for their unconditional efforts.
At the end, Ambassador Kirakossian granted the letters of gratitude of the President of the Republic of Armenia to chairperson of the board of the Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church Rubina Ghazarian, Austrian-Armenian businessman Haig Asenbauer-Tchgnavorian and other members of the Committee.
