The Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communication of Turkey had started building a new and more comfortable pier at Akhtamar Island on Lake Van, and which is considered the main tourist attraction in Van Province, according to Milliyet daily of the country, reports News.am.3
And the 4-meter wide and 50-meter long new pier was built after a one-month work.
It is noted that because of the large number of visitors in summer, Akhtamar Island’s two existing piers were unable to provide convenient service.
The Holy Cross Armenian church, which was built from 915 to 921, is on this island.
