Throughout the year of 2015, the Georgian government provided 600,000 Laris (approximately $200,000 dollars) in financial assistance to Georgian-Armenian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
This is what Head of the Georgian State Agency for Religious Affairs Jaza Vashakhmadze said, according to Artsakhpress. Vashakhmadze delivered an annual report on the Agency’s activities on February 15.
Vashakhmadze mentioned that the financial assistance to be allocated to religious unions this year makes up 4,500,000 Laris ($1.8 million dollars), compared to 3,500,000 Laris ($1.4 million dollars) allocated last year.
Out of the $1.4 million, $890,000 dollars was allocated to the Muslim Community of Georgia, about $162,000 dollars was allocated to the Community of the Roman Catholic Church, and over $131,000 dollars was allocated to the Jewish Community of Georgia.
The indicated amounts are envisaged for the salaries of clergymen and their religious activities, the restoration of religious structures, domestic expenditures of religious unions and for charity acts and cultural events, reports Sputnik.
