The Facebook group of the Armenians of Marseille (“Les Oubliés du Séisme-Solidarité Facebookianne”, “Those Forgotten After the Earthquake”) carried out another charity act (the second one this year) in the city of Spitak, which suffered from the devastating earthquake of 1988. This time, the Armenians of Marseille focused on the elderly lacking sources of income and with physical and mental problems, reports Gilbert Derderian to Hayern Aysor.
On October 22, members of the group Gilbert Derderian, Koko Babaian and Hrachya Aslanian visited the ten needy elderly citizens of Spitak who are living in shacks that are in extremely poor condition.
The elderly were happy and surprised when they learned about the purpose of the visit. The representatives of the Facebook group transferred envelopes containing the equivalent of 200 Euros in Armenian Drams since the only source of income for the elderly is the monthly pension.
The members of the Facebook group assure that the charity program will be ongoing. They will also provide assistance to other needy families devastated by the 1988 earthquake and the residents of the bordering villages of the Tavush Province who have suffered from the enemy’s attacks.
