The torch of the 6th Pan-Armenian Summer Games was lit during a grand ceremony held near the Armenian Genocide monument located in the yard of the St. Gregory the Illuminator Mother Cathedral of Buenos Aires on July 18. The torch was lit and held by famous Argentine-Armenian athlete Alberto Barseghian, reports the press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Among the participants of the ceremony were RA Ambassador to Argentina Alexan Harutyunyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Argentina, His Grace, Father Archbishop Gisak Mouradian, leaders of Argentine-Armenian organizations, members of Argentina’s organizing committee of the 6th Pan-Armenian Games, as well as athletes and guests.
In the beginning, a blessing and well-wishing ceremony was officiated by Father Archbishop Gisak Mouradian for the nearly 200 members of the Argentine delegation participating in the Pan-Armenian Games and for the Olympic fire symbolizing the opening of the Games at the church.
The ceremony was followed by speeches by RA Ambassador to Argentina Alexan Harutyunyan, Father Archbishop Gisak Mouradian, as well as leaders of Argentine-Armenian community and athletic organizations.
In his speech, Ambassador Harutyunyan attached importance to the role and significance of the Pan-Armenian Games in consolidating all Armenians, helping bring young Armenians together in the homeland and strengthening the Armenia-Diaspora relations.
The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of holding the 6th Pan-Armenian Games as part of the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
